am i reaching the borders soon?

2009 is finally coming to an end... It has been a long time since i last posted here. During this period of time, I have been busy with performances locally, in London and Taiwan. It has been an amazing experience for me in the past months and i really wish that our individual instrumental tuition could last till next semester, which unfortunately is going to end this semester for our batch of final years. I'm now left with the final 2 yangqin lessons which i must treasure dearly. There're still many pieces for me to learn and my teacher actually planned the pieces to do next semester already, until I broke the news to here some time ago... good things always come to an end so quickly...

I think I have really put in effort since i entered year 1 to maximise the time i had and achieve what i can.. but as the saying goes, 'you can't have all the good things from both worlds'.. In the blink of the eye, I'm going to graduate.. this blog has accompanied my learning journey for the past 3.5 years. Looking back, I think it's really time for me to retire from the stage very soon and actually, thinking back now, I do feel a little regretful for spending so much time in music and I often wonder if i have made the right choices.. some things will never the same anymore if you dont treasure it in the early stages.. Success in life to me is not measured by achievements and how fantastic one's ability is.. Will I live the life i hope for? hopefully i can... Although it's a little late already

Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero

Seize the day and place no trust in tomorrow...

It's hols once again.. perhaps my final hols that last for more than a month before I'm thrown into the working world.. Time really flies too quickly and it felt like it was only yesterday when I went for the 'audition' and met my new classmates.. sightreading a vocal piece with jean (one on each hand) for yif..., where everytime after choir or during recorder prac, we would ask the helpful yr 4s then, on tips to completing our music assignments... Now it's gonna be my turn, as a going-to-be- yr4 (a.k.a. senior of the senior)... My final sem in school.. think I'll miss it a lot
~

This final long hols shall be made more meaningful.. I must try to reduce slacking around during hols this time and do some constructive things like continue the arrangement project, do abit of cooking and probably learn the drumset... apart from the yq lessons. Hopefully the swine flu epidemic will improve so I can go UK for the llangollen international musical eisteddfod which comes right smack in the middle of my practicum.. not sure if I made the right choice to go though

oh ya and move from being

music as architect, architect as music

must watch - Volodos!

Today I chanced upon this video of Arcadi Volodos playing his own transcription of Mozart's Turkish march.. it's really fantastic! unbelievable that it's just one piano, one pianist.

His Rach 2 is here:

With a Variable Key

With a variable key
you unlock the house in which
drifts the snow of that left unspoken.
Always what key yopu choose
depends on the blood that spurts
from your eye or your mouth or your ear.

You vary the key, you vary the word
that is free to drift with the flakes.
What snowball will form round the word
depends on the wind that rebuffs you.

Happie 2009 to all!

2008 is now history and it's time for us to move forward again, architects of the future! Hopefully in this coming year, everything would be smoothsailing and a satisfying year for us.. It's time to work hard again.. School is almost starting in a wk's time and it's time to de-rust my brain.. haha.. gotta start getting used to the hecticity of assignments, (rather than play), which I've been too used to for the past weeks..
Come to think of it, it just seemed yesterday that we ushered in 2008, and now it's over.. time really flies and soon i would be graduating. Haha, I really wish that time wouldnt go past so quickly.. I can already feel the weight of making decisions, and sometimes i think life is really a gamble.. when instincts come into conflict with logic/ reasonableness/ practicality.. what do we do? haha
Anyway... it's the first day of 2009.. Stay healthy and happie everyone!!! :)
